Biography
 

Gregor Simon studied church music (A) in Saarbrücken and Munich as well as music theory
in Detmold. From 1997 to 2001 he was cantor in Stuttgart, from 2002 to 2012 in Laupheim.
He has been a freelance organist, choirmaster and composer since 2013.
 
On behalf of the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, he is in charge of the historic Holzhey organ
in the Obermarchtal Minster as custodian. In 2014 he founded the Oberschwaben Concert Choir.
From 2015 to 2020 he was conductor of the Ravensburg oratorio choir. He has been directing
the minster choir in Obermarchtal since 2018. Since 2017 he has given regular concerts with
the trumpeters Hermann Ulmschneider and Tobias Zinser.

He gives organ concerts in Germany and abroad.
 
In 2008 he received the audience prize at the International Organ Improvisation
Competition in Schlägl (Austria). In 2009 he was a finalist at the International
Organ Improvisation Competition in Dudelange (Luxembourg).

His compositions have won several prizes at international competitions.
He received composition commissions from the Office for Church Music of the Diocese
of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, the St. Martins Choir Boys in Biberach, the Cultural and Social
Foundation A.u.O.Weigele and the State Academy for Young Musicians in Ochsenhausen.

Cathedral organists such as Markus Eichenlaub and Johannes Mayr performed organ works
by Gregor Simon.
Established choirs such as the Stuttgart Singing Academy, the Ulm Oratorio Choir,    
the Ravensburg Oratorio Choir, the Oberschwaben Concert Choir, the Ensemble cantissimo,
the Rottenburg Cathedral Choir and the Essen Cathedral Choir sang his choral music.

In 2023, the Hofkapelle and the Stuttgart Chamber Choir performed Gregor Simon's cantata
"Im Spiegel der Zeiten” under the direction of Frieder Bernius.

Some of his compositions have been published by Bärenreiter, Carus and Strube.
